Avatar the Last Air-- wait, nope, sorry, wrong movie. James Cameron's AVATAR is quite a different story.

Its full of a strange alien world, a different and well examined culture, the evil militaristic and corporate humans, and ya know, the normal gist of kicking natives out of their homelands... with missiles.
But this is not a new story and its been examined time and time again through different allegories, commentaries, documentaries, and more of the like. So how does Avatar hold up as a movie and as a commentary? Ya know, actually pretty damn well.

I'm not sure what exactly was happening, or what exactly I did to fix it, but I have internet now! Apparently I had a Japanese program that was mucking up the wireless stuff, so a lot of blind clicking through that (when you're using an English OS and running a Japanese program, the program's Japanese text doesn't show up properly - you either get wingdings or ????????? all over the place and it is FRUSTRATING) and we seem to have worked out an agreement.

YAY I AM SO HAPPY!

It's very part time; I'll be working at a supermarket deli downtown on Saturday and Sunday mornings. So I need to be prepared to be at work at 6 tomorrow (which, considering it's 7 now and still pitch-dark, is sure to make for a fun trip downtown, YAY MIDWINTER ON THE 48TH PARALLEL). But I'm not complaining; it's totally gonna be worth it for the extra cash each week, and I should still be able to work on art during the week. I'm going to continue looking for a full time job, of course, because I can't support myself on this alone, and having something with benefits would be nice.

Still, this is way, way better than nothing, and I'm so grateful for my friends who've supported me and helped me out. Thank you all so much.

So, back at home for a couple of weeks. And while my family has wireless set up here, for some reason my computer is not able to use it. Which is driving me up the wall 'cause I NEED a computer that displays/types in Japanese (the family one isn't set up for it anymore, and I don't have the patience to poke around on it).

My computer sees that there's wireless available, but it can't connect to it. I've got the password and everything, but it's not working. And it is loooooooooooooooooooooooooonelyyyyyyyyyyy!

so, yeah.. i've been reading like crazy, and not doing too much of anything else....

So I was having a really horrible morning to start out with, on top of a week that has (already) not been super-great! And I probably would have whined about it and it would have taken me like a week or so to get to the "this is actually very humorous" stage of coping. I WAS GRUMPY! I HATED EVERYTHING!

But then actualize and darknightrain made it better.

So, guys! As is fairly clearly obvious if you even skim this journal for a single month (given how infrequently I post, haha), it is really obvious that this is primarily a fic-posting journal! Which is all well and good, because I am entirely too scatterbrained/lazy/etc to actual handle having a separate journal for LIFE vs FANDOM. I've tried it before in the past. So this means I have people from online and offline reading this. (HELLO EVERYONE.)

Onnnnn the other hand, I am sort of wondering about doing away with some of my writing filters, or--barring that--setting up a separate area for the stuff I would normally filter. (So currently, my original fiction, minus whatever I write for imaginarybeasts, and anything nswf.) I have been toying with setting up WordPress on my sob sob over two years neglected website, and WordPress does have an option for password-locking entries. It's not a perfect system, but it might help me clean my flist a bit, as well as put a bit more separation between my life (and the people who're less interested in seeing that stuff from me XD) and these things.

Or should I just do away with these things altogether, since I write more original fic than nsfw stuff, and I feel kind of bad for the people who're asking to be added to these filters when ... there's almost thing on them. 8( (It's not necessarily that I don't even want to write it, because sometimes I'm like I HAVE AN IDEA FOR THESE THINGS WHICH ARE POSSIBLY BUT MAYBE NOT QUESTIONABLE I SHOULD WRITE IT-- and then I get distracted. I do so very easily.) I would still be keeping a filter for original stuff (again, minus imaginarybeasts, ps guys the theme this time is APOCALYPSE/DISTOPIA, you know you want to write it). And I will probably start redoing tags, though that will take forever lollllllll.

I AM TORN. THERE IS NO RIGHT ANSWER. IS THERE EVEN A MAJORITY RULE, I DON'T KNOW.

Last night (or rather, early this morning) after casaval's awesome birthday party, I came home, got into bed, set my cell phone alarm for 11 AM, and, knowing that I have a tendency to shut off my alarm without fully waking up, tossed it across the room.

Cut to 2 PM. I wake up, wondering why my alarm didn't go off, and look around for my phone on the floor of my room. It isn't there. I ask pinstripesuit to call it, and when it starts ringing, I find it hidden by my comforter in my own bed.

So either at 11 this morning I managed to get out f bed, find the phone, bring it back to bed, turn it off, and fall asleep again with no memory of it whatsoever... or I have a haunted cell phone.

So Shadawyn and I have talked a bit this year about giving and receiving Christmas gifts, for and from each other and our friends. We agreed that we would prefer, this year, to give to charities or to have others give to charities in our names.* We discussed this idea, and then, like many things, it fell aside to make way for day-to-day living. This morning, though, our friend D popped an email about the very same subject, which spurred me to action!

Charities!
The following is a short list of charities whose causes I support and to whom I've donated in the past. (Yes, I have and do give to charity. I know. I'm shocked too.) If you want to give me a prezzy this year, how about helping one of these organizations instead? :) (But if you already got me a prezzy, I won't say no... see asterisk below!) If you don't like any of these organizations, but know of similar ones that you do like, please feel free to give to those groups instead (but see the second list, plz).
